This series evokes feelings of connectedness with our ancestors through the tradition of foraging. The practice of gathering wild plants and other resources holds deep cultural significance for many Indigenous communities. It is tied to seasonal cycles and used to provide nutritious foods and medicines and yet is much more than just a way to obtain food. It is a deeply ingrained tradition interwoven with spiritual practices, connection with the land, and the transmission of crucial knowledge across generations. Caring for ourselves means caring for Earth and it’s important to remember that relationship and nurture it. To let her bounty and deep knowing teach us how to care for each other. Now when I savor my forage, it feels like I’m sharing a meal with those who came before, blessed by Mother Earth, the ultimate matriarch.
