Steph Littlebird

Steph Littlebird is an artist, author, curator and enrolled member of Oregon’s Grand Ronde Confederated Tribes. Steph earned her B.F.A. in Painting and Printmaking from the Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) in Portland, Oregon, she currently lives and works in Las Vegas.
Littlebird is known for her vibrant graphic imagery that combines traditional styles of her Indigenous ancestors with contemporary illustration. Her work often examines Native identity, cultural resilience, and responsible land stewardship.
Steph’s first children’s book My Powerful Hair (2023) made in collaboration with NYT bestselling Indigenous author Carole Lindstrom, earned the 2024 Carter G. Woodson Book Award. Steph has been commissioned by brands like Lucasfilms/Star Wars, Yahoo, Luna Bar, and featured by media outlets like PBS News, NPR, and ArtNews.

A reimagined image of Pocahontas flips the script on passive portrayals. With her middle finger raised and the phrase “Paint with this” overhead, this piece calls out the appropriation of Indigenous identity in American pop culture and affirms the power of Indigenous women to define their own stories.
