This handmade woodpecker ornament was created by Choctaw artist Carolyn Bernard Young.
Woodpeckers would live around Choctaw homes, and let them know whenever someone was approaching; known as the news bird and a symbol of opportunity. The friendly little woodpecker was also believed to accompany hunting parties or war parties when they went into the field.
Hand-cut, carved ornament made of white stoneware. Covered with black slip, then carved. A length of red hemp is added for hanging. Individually gift boxed for safe-keeping, or for giving.
A length of red hemp makes it easy to hang on the tree or display elsewhere in your home.
Individually gift boxed for safe-keeping, or for giving.
Each item is handmade from and may differ slightly from the images shown.
