"Woodlands Apothecary" Print

In "Woodlands Apothecary" the artist is depicting an important member of most tribes - the herbalist, or to use a more modern term, the Apothecary.

Evoking both the healthy spirits and herbal knowledge passed down from one generation to the next, this medicine elder helped comfort the sick. The Apothecary's role in the tribe was also to compliment the authority of the chief and to act as a bridge between the natural and the spiritual world - to create therapeutic pathways of healing for the good of the community and to keep the tribe in balance with itself and nature.
