Artist Victoria McKinney, Echota Cherokee
This motif depicts the importance of the never ending circle in Native American culture - The circle of the seasons, the circle of the march of the sun and moon across the sky, the circle of life itself and how it intersects with all of the other circles that are in our everyday existence. It also depicts the four winds, the four directions and the importance of dance in the tribe or the society.
Motifs and designs from the prehistoric Mound Builder culture are paired together in this piece. The main background Ogee design was found on an engraved pottery vessel from the Moundville Mounds in Alabama. The dancers are stylized motifs from the Spiro Mounds in Oklahoma and the designs on the outer trim are from numerous other Mound sites.
This print is matted and signed by the artist.
Measures 14" x 11" including mat.
