Red Earth Named Finalist for Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Award

Red Earth, Inc., producer of the annual Red Earth Festival and operator of downtown Oklahoma City’s Red Earth Art Center, is a finalist for cash awards and the title of Oklahoma’s top nonprofit organization to be presented during the prestigious Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Awards held by the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits.

Of the almost 19,000 nonprofits in Oklahoma, Red Earth is one of only 24 named a finalist for the Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Award. As a finalist, Red Earth is automatically granted a $5000 award.

The ONE Awards Selection Commission includes a group of community leaders from across Oklahoma who determine finalists. The Commission is chaired by David Hogan and includes Polly Nichols, Frank Merrick, Meg Salyer, Kathie Coyle, Nance Diamond, J. Jerry Dickman, Lisa Greenlee, Kim Henry, Phil Lakin, Jr., Wendi Schuur and Mary Kate Wilson.

“The finalists are recognized, not merely for their efforts to better their community, but for their quality of process toward that effort,” said David Hogan, Chairman of the ONE Awards Selection Commission. “From top level management to part time staff, these are committed individuals working together for the greater good of all Oklahomans.”

Of the almost 19,000 nonprofits in Oklahoma, Red Earth is one of only 24 named a finalist for the Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Award. Finalists are divided into eight mission categories with awards presented for Arts & Humanities, Community, Education, Health Services, Self-Sufficiency, Seniors, Youth Development and an Open Category. Category Winners receive an additional $2,500 and the Overall Winner receives a total of $10,000 and the title of the top nonprofit in Oklahoma. Red Earth is a finalist in the Arts & Humanities Category.

“Of course, we are thrilled with the announcement that Red Earth has been named a finalist for this prestigious award,” said Teri Stanek, Red Earth board president. “The cash award alone will help us tremendously as we work to educate both children and adults about the cultures that make Oklahoma unique. Most importantly, we are honored to be recognized along with so many other outstanding nonprofit organizations.”

In total, organizations will receive $150,000 to recognize the impact of their charitable work through the state. Since 2008, the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits has given $1.5 million to more than 150 Oklahoma nonprofits through the ONE Awards.

“Being named a finalist in the ONE Awards is not only an honor, but it helps introduce Red Earth and our mission to people throughout the state,” said Stanek. “Ultimately, this will help us achieve our goal to foster a positive awareness of Native art and culture in Oklahoma.”

On April 14, the 24 finalists will join supporters at Tulsa’s Renaissance Tulsa Hotel & Convention Center to celebrate and hear the announcement of winners in the 11th Annual One Awards. To purchase tickets or receive sponsorship information call 800-338-1798 or visit www.okcnporg.
