Yes I Can, Roger! is the featured work from Gregg Standridge's 2023 exhibition and was created with support from an OVAC Thrive Grant funded through the Andy Warhol Foundation.
The artwork playfully references Oklahoma music legend Roger Miller's famous song lyric, "You Can't Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd." Standridge imagines the impossible becoming possible, depicting a buffalo confidently skating with style and determination. Through humor and creativity, the piece celebrates the power of imagination while paying tribute to an iconic piece of Oklahoma culture.
Constructed entirely from hand-cut wood veneers, the work showcases Standridge's remarkable marquetry technique. Using dozens of species of domestic and exotic woods, each piece is individually cut, shaped, assembled, and finished by hand. The natural grain patterns and vibrant dyed veneers create movement, depth, and color that bring the whimsical scene to life.
