“Little Boy Blue” Print - Joane’ Fogel
“Little Boy Blue” Print - Joane’ Fogel
Joane Fogel (1932-2017)
11 ¼” W x 13 ¼” H
Joane Fogel thought of art as her "passion and addiction." Born in Bayridge, Brooklyn, NY, she began scribbling on anything and everything she could get her hands on when she was barely old enough to hold a pencil. She drew faces on everything from paper money to unpaid bills.
Her father was a professional musician who trained at Columbia University in saxophone, clarinet and composition. He worked with several big bands such as Tony Pastor, performing, arranging and writing music for vaudeville and classical concerts. Her mom was a professional dancer, and together they traveled the vaudeville circuit all over the east coast, taking Joane along while she was still little. From time to time she appeared on stage, singing or saying a word or a few on cue. She would sit in the shadows and draw.
