In ancient southeastern culture, items made of copper were created by artisans and considered as status symbols for elites. Copper is known to embody the characteristics of love, balance, beauty, and artistic creativity.
Brent Deramus is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, and is the owner of his own brand Chafa Homma. His artwork is a mixture of southeastern Native culture, street art, skateboarding, and punk rock. Wanting to share southeastern Native culture and stories with the world to show people that not every Native inspired design is or should be a headdress or tipi. While those items and imagery are very important to Plains Native culture, they were not a part of southeastern culture.
Chafa Homma designs are created to make a statement about the rich diversity in Native American culture.
