    "Boogers on Parade" (1994)

This 14” W x 16” H original pencil drawing, titled "Boogers on Parade", offers a unique glimpse into the cultural traditions of the Cherokee people. The artwork portrays figures adorned with distinctive masks, reminiscent of those used in the traditional Cherokee Booger Dance—a ceremonial performance aimed at teaching lessons through humor and satire.

The Booger Dance, known in Cherokee as tsu'nigadu'li ("many persons' faces covered over"), is performed at night around a campfire, typically in late fall or winter. Participants wear masks representing various characters, often to mock or represent outsiders, and engage in dances that convey moral stories or social commentary.

This drawing captures the essence of this tradition, showcasing the masked figures in a dynamic procession. The artist's attention to detail and expressive line work bring the scene to life, offering viewers an opportunity to connect with a significant aspect of Cherokee heritage.
