OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Opening with a special reception Thursday, July 10, 2025, Red Earth Art Center is proud to present Through Her Eyes, a groundbreaking new exhibition that brings together 30 Indigenous women artists whose works reflect powerful narratives of cultural identity, resilience, and matriarchal strength.
From traditional beadwork and sculpture to digital media, painting, and photography, Through Her Eyes highlights the diverse and dynamic voices of Native women artists from across the United States. These deeply personal works offer a rare and intimate perspective, each piece a lens through which we glimpse stories of survival, tradition, and creativity passed down through generations.
“This exhibit is a celebration of the unshakable strength of Indigenous women and their enduring contributions to art, culture, and community,” said Chelsey Curry, Executive Director of Red Earth. “Each artist brings her own lived experience, unique practice, and cultural lens to the gallery space.”
Featured artists include nationally recognized creators such as Steph Littlebird (Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde), Joyce Nevaquaya Harris (Comanche Nation), and Whitney Virden (Comanche/Kiowa/Cherokee), alongside a new generation of rising talents including Hayla Parker Fields (Comanche Nation) and Ashlee Ray (Chickasaw).
Participating artists represent tribal nations across North America, including the Choctaw, Chickasaw, Comanche, Mohawk, Cherokee, Lumbee, Caddo, Potawatomi, and many others. Their stories unfold through visual narratives that honor ancestral knowledge while addressing contemporary themes such as reclamation, resistance, and healing.
Standout pieces include evocative figurative sculptures, large-scale works, and beadwork creations that honor matrilineal lines, address historical trauma, and uplift the voices of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) movement. Visitors will see themes of environmental stewardship, intergenerational knowledge, and personal healing take shape across a rich variety of mediums and tribal perspectives.
Red Earth continues to serve as a vital platform for Native voices in the arts. Through Her Eyes invites the public to engage with these stories and reflect on the enduring legacy of Native women’s creativity. On display July 11 through September 26, 2025, at the Red Earth Art Center, located in the BancFirst Tower South Lobby at 100 N Broadway Ave, Oklahoma City
