Red Earth x Artspace Youth Printmaking Exhibit

    April 17–May 29
    Opening night: April 16

This exhibition features prints created by students working with Danny Sands, Red Earth Art Education Program Manager, through Native American Student Services to learn the art of printmaking. Created with support from Artspace, the exhibit celebrates youth creativity while highlighting the educational work Red Earth provides throughout the year.

Join us on April 16 for the opening and help celebrate these young artists and the educational partnerships that made this exhibit possible.

    About the exhibit

The Red Earth x Artspace Youth Printmaking Exhibit showcases work created by students who took part in a hands-on printmaking experience led by Danny Sands. Through this program, students were introduced to a creative process that encouraged experimentation, self-expression, and joy.

More than a display of finished prints, this exhibit reflects the impact of arts education and the importance of creating meaningful opportunities for Native youth to engage with the arts in a supportive environment.

    Learning through art

Working with Native American Student Services, Danny Sands guided students through the process of developing their own imagery, carving designs, and creating prints. The program introduced students to an art form that truly sparked joy for them and gave them the chance to see their ideas come to life through printmaking.

This exhibition also serves as a public reflection of the educational programming Red Earth carries out throughout the year. Programs like this help connect students with artistic skills, creativity, and cultural expression in ways that are memorable and meaningful.

    Made possible through partnership

Red Earth has partnered with Artspace over the past several years to help make this printmaking program possible. Their support has included grant funding, access to printing space for studio days, and visiting guest educators who helped enrich the students’ experience.

Why this exhibit is especially meaningful this year

In past years, students in this program often concluded their printmaking experience by taking part in the Steamroller Festival. With the event moving from spring to fall this year, that timeline no longer aligned with the school year.

Waiting until October would have meant that some of these students might not have the same opportunity to participate or celebrate the work they created. Instead, Red Earth chose to present this exhibition so their accomplishments could still be shared and recognized in a meaningful way.
