The Red Earth Festival is honored to welcome the Next Generation White Buffalo Dance Group from Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico.
Made up entirely of youth singers and dancers, the group is making the journey to Oklahoma City to share the White Buffalo Dance with festival visitors. What they bring is much more than a stage performance. It is an expression of community, cultural identity, prayer, and the strength of young people learning to carry their traditions forward.
More than a performance
Culture remains strong when young people choose to carry it
Many of the group members are classmates preparing to transition from middle school into high school. Through song, dance, ceremony, and language, they strengthen their connection to their community and to one another.
The group gives young people a positive place to come together as they face the challenges of growing up, substance use, negative influences, and the pressures of coming of age.
Their practices allow them to learn from elders, speak their ancient language, understand the meaning behind the ceremony, and build confidence in who they are.

Connecting Native communities
Sharing their culture while learning from others
The group’s visit gives its young members an opportunity to meet Native artists, singers, dancers, elders, and families from Tribal Nations across the country.
They are coming to share their own traditions, but they are also coming to listen, learn, and experience the many Native cultures represented at Red Earth.
That exchange is at the heart of the Red Earth Festival. For 40 years, Red Earth has brought Native people together to celebrate living cultures, support Native artists, and create meaningful connections across communities and generations.
