A group of over twenty First American artists came together in pursuit of not only discovering commonalities but displaying their relationships through indigenous culture and craft. Utilizing a reciprocal creative process by exchanging practices and experiences, the artist's relationships with one another becomes vital to the creation ensuring that each piece within the exhibit has been influenced and touched by the culture and community of the individuals collaborating.
Some pieces were developed in a collaborative process while others were created with additive methods, incorporating their own style, aesthetic, or medium to the overall work as the piece passes from one artist to another. Seeking to showcase what differentiates First American art from other art communities, these artists interweave cultural metaphor and visual dialogue in order to reflect the unique nature of the First American art experience.
This Contemporary First American art stands on the foundation of tradition and continues to walk alongside tradition into the future with exhibits such as these. This “collection of wisdom” is the ultimate reflection of indigenous art that utilizes experience, culture, and relationships to create deeper connections amongst the artists themselves and their communities.
